-Yes we do have to talk about my course again on the blog. Sorry, not sorry.
Welcome back to the home of unoriginal thinking. Today, we are going to do some self-reflecting and a little soul-searching after Textualities 2023. For those who are not familiar with the event: it's a student-organized mini-conference within the English Department. The mini-conference was organized into four different panels, covering a wide range of topics.

In general, I truly love the idea of the mini-conference. It's great to get some hands-on experience with organizing and participating in such an event. I cannot pretend that I was not a little anxious about the event because of my mortal enemy. Pecha Kucha, that demon. Pecha Kucha presentations consist of twenty slides that are timed by twenty seconds. My presentation focused on an abstract of my thesis dissertation; "Voiceless Villians: Similarities in the Otherings Miss Jessel and Bertha Mason."

I felt that the presentation went well. (Surprisingly well.) All thanks to the consistent guidance of Anne Etienne who really helped me work on my timing and presentation skills. It was actually quite enjoyable to talk to a group of people about a topic that I am really interested in. It felt very natural and easy. The Q&A portion which was hosted by the wonderful Hanke was also really fun. I felt like it gave me a better opportunity to further elaborate on my thesis topic in a way that the Pecha Kucha would not allow.
The most difficult part was probably chairing the third panel "Nature, Space, and Place." While I had a little bit of chairing experience from the UCC Feminist Society, it was quite daunting. The hardest part was thinking of questions for panel members to fill in the gap. Some of the audience had questions there was definitely a few lull moments in chairing. I would definitely like to improve on this for any future panels. I should have had a pen and pad handy to take notes during the panels themselves.
Without a doubt though I loved the mini-conference. Mainly the living tweeting element. Any excuse to use a good GIF and I am happy as a clam.

In conclusion, the event was amazing. It was a great way to get to interact with my peers and I am so grateful to share such an experience with my class.
